Chemicals Testing Laboratory

Chemical Registration Center, SEPA

Introduction

Chemicals Testing Laboratory of Chemical Registration Center, SEPA was established in 1994. Its aim is to provide high quality test data for the effect of biotic system, biodegradation and bioaccumulation of chemicals and environmental samples.

The staff in the lab are experienced and skilled; among them, there are one senior researcher, two associate researchers, and four with M.S. degree.

The lab creates a good circumstance and possesses well-matched facilities. It occupies 140 m2 office area and near 700 m2 testing area, including 140 m2 culture section, strictly separated. The main equipment and instruments is listed as followings:

The culture system for fish

The culture and breed system for daphnia

The culture system for alga

The toxicity test systems for alga, fish, and daphnia.

The test species used in the lab include four alga species, one daphnia species and three fish species.

To assure the quality of the data, the lab, from its establishing, has been focusing on the breeding test creatures, as well as on other basic facilities and management. After hard worked several years, the lab is able to supply itself all organisms for the tests. In particularly, the fish supply is featuring remarkably in the lab. The three fish species bred in the lab include not only which is recommended by international organizations, i.e. ISO, OECD, but also which are hopeful to become the standard test fish species in China, and found uniquely in China. The fish supplied can fully meet the requirements of the tests, both in quality and quantity. And all fish used in one test are the offspring from one couple of parents.

The lab regards "JUSTNESS, STANDARDIZATION, SCIENTIZATION, ACCURATENESS" as its motto, and strictly manages according to the guidelines of China National Accreditation Committee for Laboratories (CNACL). The lab was accredited by CNACAL on Jan. 18, 2002(Certificate No. 0592).

The scope accredited is as below:

  1. Alga growth, Inhibition test (median effective concentration, EC50);
  2. Daphnia sp. Acute immobilization test (median effective concen-tration, EC50);
  3. Fish, Acute toxicity test (median lethal concentration, LC50);
